HISTORY OF THE EMO FALL FAIR

This year marks the monumental milestone as the Fall Fair celebrates its 125th Anniversary. What began in 1900 as a modest gathering of farmers, families and neighbours has become a vibrant annual local event that brings community together. Each year the Emo Fair hosts a midway as well as competitions including exhibition hall with homemade, culinary arts, photography, flowers, fruits and vegetables, in addition horse shows, cattle shows, 4-H competitions, Mini Queen & King, live entertainment, and stock car races. The attendance at the Fair in 2024 was 10,000 people.

The Ambassador contest is a new program which is aimed to have many similarities to the Emo Fair Queen Contest. Some of the Ambassador duties will be to promote the Fair and serve as, “the Face of the Fair” attending events and public speaking, educating the public about agriculture, local farming, and rural traditions, they will engage with visitors, welcoming guests, answer questions and guiding them through exhibits and events, they will support exhibitors, helping with presentations, livestock shows and other contest by assisting participates and judges.

The Ambassador will participate in media outreach by taking part in interviews, social media campaigns about the Fair and public appearances. The Ambassador will lead community involvement and encourage young adults to get involved in their communities by volunteering, they will act as a role model demonstrating leadership, respect and a positive attitude. The Ambassador will be responsible for assisting with Fair operations, leading a hand with event setup, organizing educational activities and supporting the Fair Board when needed.

The RRVAS is very excited to bring back this great opportunity for youth leadership in the Rainy River District in hopes that this program will continue for years to come.
